Director Passes
Director Passes were mailed to NWAPA member bands today, September 21st. Each member band should receive their passes in the next few days. These passes are intended to be used by individuals directly involved with a member band, preferably an adult, although the individual does not necessarily have to be a director. These particular passes are valid for entry at all NWAPA-sponsored shows, whether or not your band is in attendance. This is in accordance with what was discussed and decided upon at the 8/25 Draw Meeting.
Passes cannot be replaced, so protect them well! If you do not receive your passes by Friday, 9/23, please contact fall.vp.nwapa@gmail.com.

Winter Show Host Application Posted
The winter show host application has been posted under the resources tab or by clicking this link: 2013_Winter_Host_Application . We are asking that all show host forms be returned to the circuit by October 1st.
Handbooks, Classifications & Attendance
The Fall Member Handbook, Fall Show Sponsor Handbook and Fall Adjudication Manual are now available on the Resources page under the heading, “Fall Season.” Perhaps the most important change from last year are new minimum/maximum performance times for Single-A and Double-AA bands. Please read through the handbook(s) carefully and send an email message with any questions.
Classifications have been determined. For 2012, bands with 73 or less members are in the Single A class, and bands with 74 or more members are in the Double AA class. Please visit the Members page to see a list of bands and their classifications.
Would you like to know what bands are attending which shows? Visit either the Events page or the Members page and click on “Show Attendance” to find out!
Draw Results
Here are draw results from today’s meeting:
On September 1 (four weeks before the first competition), bands that registered as “A or AA” will be split in half based on size and a cut-off number will be provided. Directors: Please update fall.vp.nwapa@gmail.com if/when your numbers change on or before 9/1.
A big THANKS! to everyone who attended today’s meeting.
Surety Bond Typo
A typo has been found on the fall fees worksheet, my sincere apologies for posting the incorrect surety bond amount. The CORRECT fall surety bond is $200, not $100. Again, please check with the treasurer Laurie Gottschalk (treasurer.nwapa@gmail.com) if you have any questions whether or not you owe a surety bond. Most marching bands have one on file. Looking forward to seeing you all at the meeting!
For Your Review
In preparation for the upcoming Fall Draw Meeting, please take a few moments to review the following 4 documents.
These items will be voted on for ratification at the meeting following any discussion on them. Please take note of any corrections or substitutions you think should be made, and email them to the Fall Vice President by Friday morning. You may also bring them with you to the meeting on Saturday.

Congratulations & Thanks!
Congratulations to any and all bands who performed at NWAPA-sanctioned events this year. Throughout late September and October, it was a thrill to see so many young people working together each weekend to make art through music and movement. We know that in addition to incredible performances, marching band members have made new friends, improved their musical abilities, and learned to work with others as a team. It is assuring to know that marching band students (and music students in general) are more likely to go on to be successful young adults, and become leaders in their professions when they grow up. The beginnings of those futures shine brilliantly whenever a band “takes the field.” Congrats on your hard work!
Equally impressive are the supportive parents and sponsors who help provide this opportunity to their students. The total hours spent building props, moving equipment, raising funds and cooking meals are unfathomable. It is through the sacrifices of these people that marching band is possible! Thank you to anyone who helped their school’s band in any way, small or large.
And finally, thank you to the school boards and administrators of our member schools. Competitive marching has a unique power to motivate students, ignite physical and mental growth, and bring together a caring and sensitive community of teachers, parents and students. We appreciate your support and hope you will continue to recognize music as an essential element of a young person’s development, from Kindergarten to their senior year.
Until next fall, you are all hereby DISMISSED! We’ll see you on December 10th at the Fall Wrap-Up Meeting.
Warmly,
Matt Sadowski
